The rookie of the year race is one that we imagine will go down to the last game of the season as Auston Matthews and Patrik Laine are neck and neck.

Tuesday night, the first and second overall picks in the 2016 draft battled for the second time in their careers, and it was all Laine early on as he tallied two goals before the third period to bring his total to 30 for the season.

Jets fans knew Laine would be a great goalscorer, but they have to be pleasantly surprised that he's reached the 30 goal mark in his first NHL season.

These three stats related to Laine's first 30 goal campaign will also surprise fans as the milestone is quite historic.

Franchise Record

Before you say Teemu Selanne has the franchise record for most goals in a rookie season, you're not wrong, but you're not right.

Selanne's record belongs to the Jets/Coyotes franchise.  Laine's 30th of the season is a rookie record for the Thrashers/Jets franchise.

Young Gun

Not only is Laine a rookie, but he's an 18-year-old rookie, making the accomplishment all the more impressive, especially when you consider the elite company he joined.

Stars and Leafs Killer

Nearly half of Laine's goals have come against two teams.

He's got five against the Leafs in two games and eight against the Stars in five games.

Safe to say he's a Leafs and Stars killer which should probably worry Stars fans more considering Dallas is in the same division as Winnipeg.
