The legend surrounding hockey players is that their favourite offseason  activity is to hit the links, but their Instagrams might tell a different story.

There is clearly another sport infringing on that territory as players from across the league are just itching to dip their lines in the drink. It seems like every day in the summer you can see another player posting about a great fishing trip or even better, showing off a hefty haul from a day on the lake.

As NHL season gets closer and fishing season draws to a close (At least for these guys), we thought we’d feature some of the best catches from the offseason.

In no specific order, here are some of the biggest fish caught by NHLers in the offseason.

Apparently this is as close to catching a Muskie as I'll ever get. Thankfully Guide Dave does it again. @dwatty22

Obviously the Sturgeon is the biggest fish of the bunch, but several others in there that many would prefer to catch.

The biggest catch of the year might actually belong to the KHL. Former NHLer Ilya Kovalchuk reeled in a hammerhead shark over the summer – although that’s surely not what he was trying to hook.
