The reason why we play a sport is to compete and win.  Yes, every athlete learns life lessons along their quest to achieve victory, but the ultimate goal in any sport is to win.

Ironically, one of the hardest lessons to learn is how to lose and deal with the heartbreak of coming so close to realizing your dreams.  Golfer Kevin Dougherty is dealing with that heartbreak missing out on getting his PGA Tour card by an inch.

It doesn't get more heartbreaking than that on the golf course.

As awful as that moment was for Dougherty, he still has a chance to get his PGA Tour card as 25 more cards will be awarded in the four-event Web.com Tour Finals.  Whoever earns the most cumulative money in those events will get a card.
