UFC legend Conor McGregor is in some hot water with ABC President Mike Mazzulli following his conduct at Bellator 187.

After his Irish teammate Charlie Ward defeated John Redmond, McGregor uncontrollably stormed the cage to celebrate with his friend. Referee Marc Goddard attempted to control McGregor in order to restore order, but was shoved and verbally attacked instead. McGregor is not a licensed cornerman so he technically was not allowed to be in the ring. After being escorted from the cage, McGregor attempted to re-enter and slapped a Bellator staff member in the process.

Association of Boxing Commissions and Combative Sports president Mike Mazzulli, who was serving as the lead regulator on Friday night for the Bellator card, responded to the incident with a public statement. Here’s what he had to say:

The following excerpt was found at MMAfighting.com

Mr. Conor McGregor who was a spectator at the time, disrupted the event by scaling the cage prior to the conclusion of the bout. Mr. McGregor’s conduct jeopardized the health and safety of the bout participants by delaying necessary medical attention to the fighters that were injured during the round.

In addition, Mr. McGregor assaulted Referee Mark Goddard and a Bellator staff.

The MTDAR has been in consultation with the upper management of the UFC regarding Mr. McGregor’s inappropriate and unacceptable behavior.

The MTDAR has also contacted members of the Association of Boxing Commissioners that have licensed Mr. McGregor in their jurisdictions to inform them of Mr. McGregor’s behavior.

McGregor could be facing discipline for his actions but Mazzolli stated that any kind of sanction would have to come from a commission that licenses him. The president doesn’t appear to be too intimidated when you consider the text he shared with MMA Junkie’s Steven Marrocco..

As the situation unfolds, we should certainly be hearing a statement from the outspoken McGrgor in the near future.
