There have been a ton of hat tricks already this season in the NHL, and Tuesday night we got two more, one from an unlikely source and one from a superstar.

Obviously Tavares is the superstar we're talking about as the Islanders captain increased his goal total to six on the season with his hat trick against the Coyotes in a 5-3 New York win.

Every hockey fan knows that when someone records a hat trick, hats are thrown on the ice (duh), but the reason we're reminding you of this obvious information is because a fan decided to throw an unusual object on the ice after Tavares scored his third goal of the game.

Yes, someone threw a shoe on the ice and before you ask, yes there's a video of it!

The lesson here, when you don't have a hat, throw a shoe.

Oddly enough, shoes are already on the list of weird items that have been thrown on the ice for a hat trick, and of course it's happened at an Islanders game before, but it was for an opposing player (JVR).
