It appears as though Montreal Canadiens forward Andrew Shaw was up to his pesky antics tonight on the road against the Calgary Flames.

Shaw has earned the reputation as a player who isn’t afraid to get his nose dirty. The 26-year-old is notorious for parking himself in front of the net and has established himself as a true pain to goaltenders around the NHL. But rather than doing his damage ahead of the netminder, he managed to make contact with Calgary Flames Mike Smith behind it. While attempting to play a loose puck, Smith left his crease, only to be tripped by Shaw’s stick. As the play ensued, Getty Image’s Derek Leung managed to capture the perfect photo of the play unfold. Both players looked stunned as they fell to the ice together.

Shaw was awarded a tripping penalty but the Flames were unable to capitalize on the opportunity.

The Belleville, Ontario native made headlines earlier in the week after he and teammate Joe Morrow dropped the gloves in practice. The fight was innocent for the most part, but it hardly came as a surprise that Shaw was one of the two involved.

Neither the practice incident nor Shaw’s trip seemed to negatively affect the team, as Montreal managed to come away with a 3-2 victory. Shaw can at times appear to be the NHL’s biggest pest, but there’s no denying that he holds great value to the Canadiens.

Even if he does draw the odd dumb penalty.
