If you were frequenting hockey twitter on Sunday afternoon, there’s a good chance that you saw a picture of a list of current superstars and legends assigned a dollar value in hopes of building the best starting lineup possible while only using $15.

Twitter user Matthew Henderson put together this fun exercise, and it generated a ton of positive feedback.

It even caught the attention of some big name hockey personalties, such as TSN Hockey's Ray Ferraro.

There’s lots of variables to ponder over, like what age you’d be selecting each player at, and if that cosigns with his peak performance years. Your decision is likely to be based around your subjective analysis of each player, which might allow bias to creep its head into your choices.

And really, there’s nothing wrong with that, because it’s ultimately just a fun experiment that solely up to you to decipher over.

Much like the way we see teams construct their NHL rosters, do you load up your team in a top heavy manner with a generational talented centre, defenceman, or goaltender, or do you try and find value in some of your picks and allocate the dollars up and down the lineup?

We’ll lean towards the money puck approach of finding good value, and present the following:

 LW:  Jamie Benn ($2) – C:  Connor McDavid ($2) – RW: Mike Bossy ($3)
LHD: Bobby Orr ($5) – RHD Erik Karlsson ($2)
                                                G: Carey Price ($1)

On Monday, Henderson – who's a graphic designer, and does some top notch work for the popular Canucks Army blog – tweeted out the modern version of the exercise, opting for some of the top superstars in the NHL.

Again, sticking with the same concept of leaning towards the best value, let’s build our contemporary version.

LW:  Brad Marchand ($3) – C:  Auston Matthews ($2) – RW: Vladimir Tarasenko ($4)
LHD: Victor Hedman ($4) – RHD Drew Doughty ($1)
                                                G: Devan Dubnyk ($1)

How would you go about building your team? Tweet us your favourite rendition or comment on one of our platforms, and let roster constructing and debating begin!

If only we could see our selections face off against one another.
