The Toronto Maple Leafs and Washington Capitals went head-to-head at the Verizon Center on Tuesday night. Towards the end of the pre-game warm-ups, James van Riemsdyk started to head towards the Maple Leafs’ locker room when he noticed two fans holding a sign right behind the bench.

The two fans mentioned on their sign that it was their first NHL game and were wondering if someone on the team could hook them up with a puck. That’s when JVR came to the rescue…kind of.

Auston Matthews to the rescue!

Alright, so JVR completely failed that task, but it was the thought that counts, right? Count on Auston Matthews to come in and save the day. We’re not surprised that he was able to get it done on his first attempt. The best part about the entire thing is that they were probably just hoping to get a puck from anyone, they probably never expected it to come from Auston Matthews himself.
