If Leafs fans had any doubts about if Auston Matthews would be as good as advertised, he erased those doubts in his first game by scoring four goals.

If anyone still had doubts after his opening game, Matthews' play this season has erased them to say the least.

Toronto's first overall pick has helped the Leafs all but secure a playoff berth, and he's etched his name into the record books along the way.

Saturday night in Detroit, Matthews continued to make history as he tied three more rookie records with a three-point performance.

Matthews has five games left to break all three records, which is certainly possible considering how good he's been as of late.

What's even more impressive is that Matthews is in some pretty elite company when it comes to rookie goal scoring, and while he won't catch Wayne Gretzky, he could get close to Mario Lemieux.

Safe to say he and Toronto's other rookies are pretty good.

It's a been a very good year for the #Leafs rookies. Predict the stats for these three a year from now.

At the end of the day, though, it's all about wins for Matthews and making the playoffs, something the Leafs are poised to do as they are now in second in the Atlantic.
