Losing a championship game is already a crushing moment in any athletes life (At least in the moment), but doing it after you thought you already won is a nightmare.

That’s what happened to the Wichita Wingnuts on Monday night.

The Wingnuts were facing off against the Winnipeg Goldeyes and in the ninth inning, they thought they’d won. With one out to go in the game, the umpire called a balk before the ground out that was thought to have ended the game. Of course, everybody on the team but one person missed that signal and ran out on the field to celebrate.

Eventually, after everything was sorted out, the runners advanced and the Wingnuts needed one more out to clinch the championship.

The game ended up going to extras and they eventually lost in the 17th inning. Luckily for them, the series isn’t over. They may have celebrated the championship early but they haven’t officially lost the series yet. This was Game 4 and the Wingnuts were up 2-1, so now the series will go to Game 5.

Still, this has to sting.
