Jose Bautista re-signed with the Blue Jays this offseason, and for some reason, not everyone was thrilled about it.
After a down year (By his standards), it seemed like Bautista wasn’t going to return to the Blue Jays. However, after the market wasn’t too keen on giving up a draft pick for him, it just made sense to come back to the Blue Jays. While, many questioned his defense in right field and his age, we’ve learned many times not to bet against Jose Bautista.
Last night, while playing for Dominican Republic in the World Baseball Classic, he gave Canadians a reminder of what it’s like to have Jose Bautista play against you.
Despite being injured and having an off year, last year Bautista still put up a wRC+ of 122 (League average is around 100), a stellar walk rate and a lot of hard contact on baseballs.
This home run is just a reminder to any Canadian Blue Jays fans watching the World Baseball Classic that only guarantees $18 million for one year with options that could keep him in Toronto through 2018.
