Being a pest has its down days.

Over the years, Anaheim Ducks forward Corey Perry has earned the reputation as a menace in the NHL. The 32-year-old has never shied away from talking trash, roughing it up after the whistle, and dropping the gloves when he needs to. During a game against the Winnipeg Jets on Friday afternoon, Perry's antics landed him in on the receiving end of a scary incident with defenceman Ben Chiarot.

Perry, who can usually be seen around the crease, gave a cross-check to the back of Chiarot that set the defender off. The two quickly got into which led to Chiarot butt-ending Perry in the face.

It’s unclear whether Chiarot intended to use the butt-end of his stick, but the play was dangerous nonetheless. Chaos took place afterwards, as the teams instantly engaged in a small brawl. When Cam Fowler tried to jump in, Dustin Byfuglien essentially dropped him with one arm.

The Jets were recently on the receiving end of a dirty play, when forward Mathieu Perreault was high-sticked by Philadelphia Flyers defenceman Radko Gudas in the head.

Things can obviously get heated during a hockey game but players must recognize that their twig can be used as a weapon. The NHL will likely investigate the situation and determine whether Chiarot will face further discipline.

To the dismay of Perry and his Anaheim teammates, Chiarot’s Jets walked away with a 4-1 victory.
