The sighting of a blimp at a live sporting event usually brings about a feeling of joy, but on Thursday at the U.S. Open it was the exact opposite, as patrons watched a manned blimp crash into a nearby field and burst into flames.

The accident occurred in the afternoon during the first round of the U.S. Open at Erin Mills in Wisconsin, with the blimp reportedly crashing two miles off property. Scary footage of the crash was captured by onlookers at the U.S. Open.

Multiple witnesses on the scene stated that they saw people parachuting out of the blimp before it crashed to the ground, but that has not yet been confirmed. At this time the pilot of the manned blimp is reportedly being treated for injuries by local rescue.

The blimp was not affiliated with the tournament.
