Hockey fans may complain that the NHL schedule is packed with too many outdoor games, but even the most cynical of anti-Winter Classic haters would have to admit they're still entertaining match-ups, and that all comes down to one reason: the players love playing in them.

There's something about Winter Classic's that get NHL players feeling like kids again. St. Louis Blues defenceman Kevin Shattenkirk's pre-game lineup announcement was a prime example of the lighthearted atmosphere that only the Winter Classic brings.


Not bad Mr. Shattenkirk. All he needs is a mic stand, a brick wall behind him and to remember to preface all of his jokes with "don't you hate it when." The jokes probably kept flowing in once the Blues returned to the dressing room after defeating the Blackhawks 4-1.
