Jake Oettinger was selected 26th overall in the first round of the 2017 NHL Entry Draft by the Dallas Stars after an impressive debut season with Boston University, where he posted a 21-11-3 record with a 2.11 GAA and .927 save percentage in 35 games.

Since the Stars already have Kari Lehtonen on their roster and they went out and acquired Ben Bishop in May, who they signed to a six-year deal days after the trade, Oettinger will most likely go back to Boston University for another season next year before he gets a true chance to make his way up through the organization.

On Monday, the 18-year-old Lakeville, Minnesota native joined the Dave Art Squad and had an incredible custom mask created by David Gunnarsson for the upcoming season that honours a couple of Boston sports legends.

The right side of Oettinger’s mask is a tribute to New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, while the left side is a tribute to former Boston Red Sox slugger David Ortiz.
