One of the strangest stories from Super Bowl 52 was the benching of Malcolm Butler.

Malcolm Butler spoke candidly on being benched following #SBLII

The hero of Super Bowl 49 played special teams and watched Nick Foles absolutely crave up the Patriots' defence, and two days after the game, we still don't know why he was benched.

There have been reports, though, that reveal what Butler may have done that forced the Patriots to bench him.

On Tuesday, Malcolm Butler took to social media to not only respond to the reports about why he was benched, but to refute them.

What makes the statement more interesting is the fact that Tom Brady liked it and commented on it.

Brady wasn't the only Patriots player (former or current) to like the picture Butler posted, either.

It seems pretty clear that Butler has the support of Brady and his teammates and that's all that matters to him.

Rumours are just rumours until they are confirmed and at this point, the truth about why Butler was benched may never come out, but it's hard to believe the rumours when he was the support of Brady and company.

If the Super Bowl was the last game Butler played as a member of the Patriots, his teammates and fans will never forget what he did for the team.  Plus, we're sure he'll garner a ton of interest from other teams because he's a talented player.
