Carlos Beltran is a great baseball player, but is an even better human being.

Beltran and his Houston Astros teammates have been mainstays in Houston and the communities surrounding the fourth largest city in all of America following the aftermath of hurricance Harvey.

They experienced the first hand effects of destructiveness from a natural disaster, and know all too well the damage it can cause. On Friday, the team and Houston mayor Sylvester Turner announced they’d be sending down 55 pallets full of supplies to Puerto Rico to help the victims of Hurricane Maria.

Beltran kickstarted a relief fund and donated $1 million to aid those effected in his home country. The money and supplies that’s been donated is a tremendous act of kindness, but Beltran has taken it one step further by teaming up with team owner Jim Crane to fly Puerto Rican cancer patients away from the island and make sure they get the proper treatment they need to fight the horrible disease, and help ease take their minds off all the adversity they're facing.

Major props to For The Win for this excerpt:

“Thanks to Jim Crane, my family was able to leave (Puerto Rico),” Beltran said. “He sent a plane for 100 passengers. Also, through my foundation, we were able to contact 15-16 people that were going through cancer treatments and needed to leave the country… They’re going to come and watch the games, and at least take their heads off the situation in Puerto Rico that people are going through, even though the reality is the reality and our country is in big need. Right now, we just need help.

Beltran and the Astors hold a 2-0 lead over the Boston Red Sox. While he isn’t quite the same player he once was, the 40-year-old has produced terrific post-season numbers over his 20-year career.

Good on Carlos and the entire Houston organization for their humanitarian efforts after experiencing their own catastrophic events. Karma is definitely on their side as they seek their first World Series ring, which would be a tremendous story given what Houston went through recently. The sports world has shown a great deal of solidarity recently following the unfortuane hurricanes and the Vegas shooting.

#HoustonAstrosClassAct #JimCrainIsTheMVP #GodBlessHisHeart #QueDiosLeDevuelvaTodoEnSalud #YEnUnCampeonato🙏🏼 #ForeverGrateful
