Cavs reportedly interested in Billups in executive role; supported Melo trade

On Monday night, the Cleveland Cavaliers released a statement announcing the team and general manager David Griffin weren’t able to extend his contract, and were parting ways. Basketball fans were shocked by the news, and even more shocked when they heard Dan Gilbert didn’t consult with superstar LeBron James before making the call.

Just after the initial news broke, Adrian Wojnarowki let the world know according to sources Gilbert was targeting Chauncey Billups to become the Cavs’ top basketball executive.

Well, the people at Sports Illustrated went into the ESPN archives almost immediately and found some interesting analysis Billups made regarding the Cavs.

The Cavs are reportedly considering Chauncey Billups for an executive position. In February, he supported a potential Love-Melo trade. 🤔

If Billups does get the job, people will be watching closely to see if there are any more hints he might deal Kevin Love for Carmelo Anthony. Billups was confident Melo makes the Cavs a better team in February, so he if still has those thoughts it might be first on his list of duties.
