Not only does Erik Gudbranson impose his physical stature on the frozen pond, but he’s a pretty powerful fisher out on the river.

The Vancouver Canucks defenceman hit up the Fraser River –  the longest river in British Columbia that stretches over 1,375 kilometres – and pulled in a massive sturgeon.

Gudbranson noted the summer activity as a “summer program for wrist strengthening, fight a damn dinosaur,” in reference to recovering from season-ending wrist surgery, which limited the former Florida Panther to just one goal and five assists in 30 games during his first season in Vancouver.

Earlier this summer, the man they call “Guddy” visited the beautiful cliffs of Capri, Italy, with his girlfriend.

He then traded in the swim trunks for a suit upon returning to Vancouver, looking quite dapper.

When he returned home from his vacation, the 25-year-old was re-signed to a one-year extension worth $3.5million per-season.

We’re in the dog days of summer and keeping up with hockey players during the off-seasons is something we’ve been covering.. Fishing is right up there with the top activities, and Gudbranson isn’t the only player to catch a massive fish.

There’s no shortage of storylines featuring your favourite NHLers enjoying their down time. From numerous weddings to Mitch Marner dabbing upside down on a zipline, and new Canucks goaltender Anders Nilsson dressing up as Spider-Man to surprise his son for his birthday, the NHL offseason has provided some entertaining tabs for hockey fans to keep up on, as we all anticipate the 2017-2018 season.
