In January of 2017, the Ottawa Senators said Clarke MacArthur was being shut down for the season. To almost everyone's surprise on Tuesday, the Senators general manager Pierre Dorion announced MacArthur's return to the lineup before the game against the Detriot Red Wings.

After the game, a 2-0 victory for the Senators, a choked-up Clarke MacArthur described what it was like to learn that he would be playing against the Wings, and explained what it was like to receive a big ovation from the fans during the 3 Stars ceremony.
