Everyone remembers the opening night of the 2016-17 season because of one player, Auston Matthews.

The Leafs' first overall pick in the 2016 draft scored four goals in his debut against Craig Anderson and the Sens in the ultimate welcome to the NHL moment.

For the second straight season, Anderson was on the wrong end of facing a first overall pick as Nico Hischier scored his first and second career goals against him Thursday night.

It's quite the coincidence that the first overall pick in consecutive years scored his first career goal against Anderson.

In fact, the last time it happened was in the late 90s.  In 1997, Joe Thornton scored his first career goal against Garth Snow and a year later, first overall pick Vincent Lecavalier tallied his first NHL marker against Snow.

Snow played for the Flyers for part of the 1997-98 season before being traded to the Canucks later that season and playing for them until the 2000-01 campaign.

Safe to say Anderson is in elite company for the wrong reason in this particular instance.
