With how hard baseball players throw and the quickness that they’re expected to receive and deliver the ball, it’s a wonder that more wild throws don’t end up in the dugout.

Last night, we saw a perfect example of what’s possible on every throw to first as Cubs second baseman, Javier Baez, had a ball absolutely soar on him. The ball eventually ended up in the Atlanta Braves dugout, as players and coaches dove aside and left an iPad totally vulnerable.

We’re not sure how broken that iPad is, but that ball was whipped, and even if it didn’t square the iPad up on the screen, there’s no way that thing is surviving that throw.

Baez on the other hand will have to try and avoid doing that too much more, because so far in his MLB career, it’s been his defence that has held him in the lineup. A prospect once heralded for his raw power and bat speed always has the potential of waking up to some real power, but for now, Baez needs to be as sure-handed as they can get.
