The 1991-92 season was the beginning of something special for the Detroit Red Wings. From 1991-2011, the Red Wings never finished lower than 2nd in their division and appeared in the Stanley Cup Finals six times during that span and won four of those six times. The biggest one of those four Stanley Cup victories has to be the one that came in the 1996-97 season, as it put an end to the team’s 42-year Stanley Cup drought, which was the longest at the time.

On Tuesday night, the organization honoured the 1997 Stanley Cup Champions before puck drop between the Detroit Red Wings and Buffalo Sabres, and almost just about every member of the team was in attendance.

Twenty-years later and the players are still treated like royalty amongst the Red Wings faithful. This was a nice tribute by the Red Wings, especially with this being the final season at the legendary Joe Louis Arena.

The players even got a sneak peek at the team’s new home before the game.

To make the night even better for the fans in attendance, the team gave out some incredible replica caps to the first 5,000 fans.

It's certainly going to be a sad day when the doors at Joe Louis Arena close for good.
