Canada took on the USA tonight in a highly anticipated World Junior Summer Showcase matchup, and the game did not disappoint by any means. The US capitalized on four power plays (on four shots) and it proved to ultimately be the difference as they defeated their North American rival 7-5.

The game featured some beautiful goals, but none compared to Ryan Poehling’s, who wasn’t even the main factor on the play. Poehling’s teammate, Joey Anderson, did all of the damage with a nasty dangle before spotting his line-mate for an easy tap-in.

Very impressive stuff from the kid.

Anderson was drafted 73rd overall by the New Jersey Devils in 2016 and is currently a member of the University of Minnesota Duluth Bull dogs. In his freshman season, the Roseville, Minnesota native recorded 12 goals and 25 assists in 39 games. Not too shabby for a 19-year-old.

Anderson was a force to be reckoned with, finishing the game with a hat-trick and one assist. It’s going to be interesting to see how Canada plans on containing him, Calgary Flames prospect Adam Fox, and Buffalo Sabres 2017 8th overall pick Casey Middlestadt in the two teams’ meeting come December.
