The potential Floyd Mayweather/Conor McGregor fight has been slowly stewing for what seems like a lifetime. What started out as laughable hyperbole that was all but shrugged off has slowly becoming more and more of a reality. Recently, legitimate strides have been made towards making it happen. McGregor applied for a Nevada boxing license back in May and Mayweather reserved the MGM Grand for August 26th, leading fans to believe that a fight once seen as fantasy could actually materialize before the end of the summer.

Now, it appears another massive step towards the bout may have just been taken.

Joe Biggs reported Monday evening that Mayweather just signed his end of the contract, and that “the fight is on”.

It is worth noting that these reports have not been confirmed by anyone in Mayweather’s circle, and the way that Biggs came about this information could very well have resulted in a broken-telephone situation. Biggs apparently heard the news through his business partner, former boxing heavyweight David Niño Rodriguez, who Biggs reported was at Mayweather’s house. He then changed his story to say that Ricki Brazil, a fashion designer and childhood friend of Mayweather, was the source inside the house, and that he had told Rodriguez to inform Biggs.

Biggs also tweeted the text chain between Rodriguez and himself, and the screenshot laden with jargon such as “he’s gunna” and “I think” isn’t quite the confirmation fans were hoping for. It also doesn’t actually say that Mayweather had signed, just that he was going to with no defined point as to when.

So, we aren’t totally sure if the signing actually happened, but the fight seems to be coming together either way and this would simply be another rung in the ladder. Speaking of not being totally sure of what’s happening, Conor McGregor did post this on Instagram yesterday:

Something BIG is coming #BP

McGregor also posted this read-between-the-lines shot at his potential combatant to cap off the eventful evening.

Man, much respect to Floyd Senior still getting a few rounds in at the gym. I hope I can still train at that age. Respect.
