To put it lightly, most NHL players aren't happy that they won't be able to participate in the 2018 Olympic Winter Games in PyeongChang.

Multiple players have expressed their disappointment about the decision, but obviously things haven't changed and at this point, the players are probably just hoping they'll be able to play in the 2022 Olympic Games when the time comes:

Through it all, Alex Ovechkin has shown the most resistance and even said he would go to the Olympics despite what the NHL said:

On Thursday, however, Ovi faced the harsh reality of the situation and released a statement on players being omitted from the 2018 Olympics:

It's a tough pill to swallow for Ovi and the rest of the players, but in times like these it's awesome to see the NHL's best players support each other and that's exactly what Erik Karlsson did after he read what Ovechkin had to say:

NHL players love playing for their teams and trying to win a Stanley Cup, but there's no greater feeling or higher honour for them than representing their country on the International stage.

We hope the players get the chance to do exactly that at Olympic events in the future.
