The moment Pittsburgh Penguins fans were dreading arrived on Wednesday night in Vegas, as Marc-Andre Fleury’s time with the club officially came to an end. The Vegas Golden Knights selected the goaltender in the Expansion Draft, and Fleury was off to a new city for the first time in his 13-year NHL career.

Penguins’ fans reached out warmly, the team Twitter account added a flower to their name, Evgeni Malkin rocked his No. 29 jersey, and even Sidney Crosby let the Golden Knights know they couldn’t have a better guy.

It was an emotional night for Fleury, as he even stopped mid-sentence to let Penguins’ fans know he loved them.

But when the goodbyes are done, and the puck drops on the 2017-18 season, it’s back to business for the goalie, who is looking to achieve W’s for a new team now. That became all too relevant when Fleury was asked what he was looking forward to about playing against the Pens next season, and he got right to business.

And he won’t forget to chirp his former teammates. If the three Stanley Cup rings on his fingers say anything, it’s that Fleury is a winner, and it looks as though he intends to continue winning with the Golden Knights.
