Wednesday night was a historic one for Alexander Ovechkin.  The 31-year-old passed Maurice Richard on the all-time goals list and he recorded his 1,000 point in a 5-2 win against the Penguins.

As incredible as the night was for Ovi, he was quick to thank his teammates after the game for helping him reach the milestones.

Ovechkin is an incredible hockey player, but he's very humble and he's an incredible person as well.

If the praise for his teammates doesn't highlight that, then maybe what he did before the game against the Penguins just might.

It's little things like this that make Ovi such a fan favourite and one of the most beloved players to ever play the game.

Obviously his name will be forever etched in the hockey history books, but fans that have watched him since he entered the league in 2005 or have been lucky enough to meet him will remember him for what a great person he is, too.
