How quickly the times change.

We are in a transitional period in the NHL where young, talented teams are beginning to emerge as the new perennial contenders in the league, and the teams (Even dynasties) that we’ve known to rule their divisions for years are coming crashing to earth. On the day that Stanger Things 2 was released, it only seemed fitting to point out what a truly strange season it has been.

One team that has begun to struggle isn’t necessarily a surprise, but it is a big change from what we’ve seen over the past couple decades. The Detroit Red Wings are a team pegged to compete for the number one overall pick this season and just 11 games in, you’re already starting to see the frustration build.

The team has lost six straight games (One in overtime), and Zetterberg was as blunt as possible in explaining why the team has struggled.

“We aren’t good enough to win games, and that’s why we lost six in a row.”

He’s not wrong. Somehow, the team has been built in a way where they are right against the cap with their current roster, the current team doesn’t have the talent to become a playoff contender and there aren’t any blue chip prospects waiting in the winds.

It may be a tough couple of years in Detroit and unfortunately for Zetterberg, it doesn’t seem like anything will change in the near future – meanwhile he is signed with the team through 2021.
