Russian goalie Ilya Andryukhov recently signed with Amur Khabarovsk of the KHL after playing the past five seasons in the VHL, Russia’s second highest level of professional hockey. In a recent game against Avtomobilist, Andryukhov had to make a relief appearance midway through the second period after starting goalie Juha Metsola allowed four goals on 22 shots.

Early in the third period, Andryukhov showed his coach and other coaches throughout the KHL that he deserves a few more starts going forward.

It doesn’t matter what league you’re playing in, a save like that is always a thing of beauty and worthy of watching over and over again. The shooter had a wide open cage and Andryukhov ended up making an unbelievable save after it looked like he had no chance of even coming near the puck. He was probably just as shocked as the shooter was after he came up with the save on that wide open net.
