The 2016-17 season did not go as planned for the Montreal Canadiens after they were eliminated by the New York Rangers in the first round of the NHL playoffs on Saturday night.

The #Rangers are moving on after defeating the #Canadiens 3-1 in Game 6.

A lot of things didn’t go their way in the series, and it didn’t help that Rangers goalie Henrik Lundqvist played some of his best hockey of the season during the series.

Towards the end of the game, the Los Angeles Kings Twitter account sent out quite possibly the best tweet of the season.

If you don't notice the reference, they added a little twist on a classic moment from The Simpsons.

Once the game concluded, they sent out a friendly offer to the Canadiens in hopes of trying to cheer them up after they had just got eliminated.

The Habs responded and were interested in the offer, but on one condition.

However, the offer backfired on the Kings because they were thinking of something a little lighter.

Perhaps the Kings were just reminding everyone that they were the ones who beat The King himself in the Stanley Cup Final the last time he played out of this world in the postseason.

The Rangers will play the winner of the Bruins and Senators series, while the Canadiens and the Kings will link up on the golf course.
