Picking off runners on base for any pitcher is an art, and it's something some pitchers attempt to do more than others.

Jon Lester is not one of those pitchers that attempts to pick off runners very often nowadays, but earlier in his career that wasn't the case.

As per Sports Illustrated, Lester threw to first base 70 times in 2011, but that number decreased to five in 2012 and seven in 2013.

The reason for the decrease is the yips, which, as per Chris Chavez, is a sudden loss of some motor skills in athletes that takes place randomly.

Lester doesn't throw to first, and in 2015 he allowed a career-high 34 runners to steal second on him.

Saturday, though, against the Cardinals, Lester shocked everyone by not only throwing to first, but picking off the St. Louis runner on first.

Lester also stared down the Cardinals dugout, which made the whole moment even better.

Before that pickoff, Lester had only two since 2011, so yeah, it's a pretty big deal.
