The Little League World Series is a tournament people all around the world take incredibly seriously, but it is also used as a tool to help the young men and women taking part grow as human beings.

During the tournament, players experience many new things. Playing baseball on an international stage, the highs and lows of competition, and most of all, how to win with humility and lose with grace.

On Monday night, Venezuela’s coach led his team by example, and it was a heartwarming scene.

When Venezuela hit a walk-off two run triple to win 3-2 over the Dominican Republic, the losing team’s pitcher, Edward Uceta, was distraught. As his team celebrated, the Venezuelan coach went to comfort the young pitcher.

The little man who hit the walk-off, Omar Romero, saw his coach, and understood he needed to give his fellow competitor a hug. See the video at the top of this post.

Seeing these young men show such great sportsmanship is powerful to see. As coaching gets more and more intense for little leaguers during a high pressure situation like this tournament, it’s important for them to instill integrity and sportsmanship in the young players as well.
