Lou Lamoriello and the Toronto Maple Leafs are pretty tight lipped about their entire operation, but when speaking to Pierre LeBrun, he let a little tidbit slip.

There is a lot of speculation in Leafs Nation about who the next captain for the team will be, and Lou Lamoriello may have tipped his hand a bit about the team’s plans next season, but it doesn’t lean toward any particular player. In fact, that is exactly what he pointed out, that the Leafs might not have a captain at all next season.

You can watch his full comments on the captaincy in the video above (5:10 mark), but here is his full quote on the topic.

“Right now, that isn’t something in the forefront. I think that we’ve had tremendous leadership this year with a lot of young players. I don’t think that right now that’s something that’s on the forefront, nor is being considered at this point. I would not be surprised if we did not have a captain next year.”

There are several candidates to be the Leafs next captain season, but the front runner has to be Auston Matthews. He’s the big number one center that every hockey fan gushes over.

But Darren Dreger brings up a good point, why rush it?
