From the Montreal Canadiens going 1-5-1 in their first seven games to the Vegas Golden Knights getting off to a 5-1-0 start, there’s been a lot of surprises in the NHL just a couple of weeks into the season.
One team that has shocked the entire league with their play early on this season has been the Toronto Maple Leafs. Through their first seven games, the Leafs have scored a league-best 34 goals and own the best goal differential in the league (12).
On Friday, Bodog released its updated 2018 Stanley Cup odds as of October 20, 2017, and the Toronto Maple Leafs made quite the leap as they now own the best odds to win the Stanley Cup this year.
The Maple Leafs started the year with 14/1 odds to win the Stanley Cup, but after their hot start to the season they’ve seen their odds jump from 14/1 to 8/1, giving them the best odds to win it all for the first time in the 20 years that the odds have existed.
Close behind the Maple Leafs are the Tampa Bay Lightning, who went from 11/1 odds before the season to 9/1 odds. Ahead of the season, the Pittsburgh Penguins and Edmonton Oilers were the two favourites at 8/1 odds, but they’ve both slipped down the rankings and now own 12/1 odds along with the Chicago Blackhawks.
