Tuesday night, the Leafs and Capitals met for the first time since their epic seven-game series during the playoffs last season.  Toronto made history as they recorded a shutout in Washington for the first time ever to improve to 5-1 on the year.

That wasn't the only historic mark from the game, though, as Patrick Marleau suited up for game number 1,499 of his incredible career.

On Wednesday night, the 38-year-old will play in his 1,500 career game as the Leafs host the Red Wings, and when he was asked about the accomplishment after the game against the Caps, he had a wonderful response:

He sure has.  It's hard to believe, but Marleau was a rookie when players like Wayne Gretzky, Pavel Bure, Keith Tkachuk, Ron Francis, Peter Bondra, Felix Potvin, and Brian Leetch were still in the league.

Marleau's experience, though, has and will continue to help the Leafs, and he's got five points in six games so far this season. (has he found Jagr's fountain of youth?)

#JaromirJagr is back! How do you think he'll do in his #Flames debut? #BarDownToonz
