Patrick Marleau joined the San Jose Sharks as an 18-year-old during the 1997-98 season, so it’s understandable why so many hockey fans were shocked to hear that the 37-year-old was departing San Jose for the Toronto Maple Leafs after he signed a three-year contract with Toronto on Sunday afternoon.

Shortly after the news broke that Marleau was heading to Toronto, his wife Christina shared her husband's heartfelt message from her Twitter account.

In his 19 seasons with the team, the three-time NHL All-Star scored 508 goals and totaled 1,082 points in 1,493 games (which are all team records) and was one of the key reasons the team has been a 40-win team since the 2003-04 season (excluding the 48-game season in 2012-13).

It’s definitely going to be a little weird seeing Marleau in anything other than a Sharks uniform, but we’ll probably get used to it over the next three seasons.
