Matt Duchene played in America for his first nine seasons in the NHL, and although he loved his time in Colorado he would never see a sign like this one playing at the Pepsi Center.

With his first two games with the team coming in Sweden, Duchene didn’t get to play a home game until more than a week of being with the team. Duchene is closer to home in Ottawa, because he grew up in Haliburton, which is about a three hour drive from Ottawa. Well, apparently some fans made the trip to Ottawa for the game because this kid made a joke that only locals of Haliburton would get.

It’s about the Haliburton Dinner Jacket.

Duchene explained the Haliburton dinner joke to Don Brennan of the Ottawa Sun:

“It’s a plaid, button up .. your nice flannel type thing. You get your very locals who might wear that out to dinner at McKecks (Tap & Grill, in Haliburton) sometimes, but it’s kind of a joke.”

Unfortunately, Duchene didn’t end up scoring in the game, so that fan didn’t get his HDJ. We’re pretty sure he’ll take a photo with Duchene on his own Instagram account over a plaid shirt any day. Knowing that you made one of your favourite player’s favourite sign ever has to feel pretty good.

Still, the sign doesn’t quite rank number one for us – you’re going to have to create something really special to top this Kessel sign.
