Last night, Andrei Markov had a big night, notching an assist and tying him with Guy Lapointe for 2nd in franchise points by a defenceman.

Carey Price was first star of the night and had a hilarious moment with the crowd, but Markov still received the recognition he deserves. He has quietly been one of the league’s best defenceman for many years, but the Bell Centre wasn’t quiet for him last night, they roared in approval after his achievement.

After the game, Arpon Basu, asked around the Habs dressing room about what makes Markov so special and Max Pacioretty mentioned the spin he puts on passes. For most, having the ability to play at the NHL level and have time to consider the spin you put on passes seems unimaginable, but apparently that’s how quickly Markov can think the game.

Pacioretty gave a pretty detailed response about what exactly he means by putting spin on a puck.

These little tidbits of information are fascinating. Sometimes NHL players don’t even realize that most people don’t see this stuff, but when it’s uncovered it’s just another layer of their jobs that we can appreciate a little more.
