Floyd “Money” Mayweather has that nickname for a reason, and it’s not giving away money.

Mayweather likes to make money, which he made clear again when he became involved with the Soulja Boy, Chris Brown shenanigans, but sometimes it’s crazy to see how much money he wants to make. Mayweather was on ESPN’s First Take and he revealed the amount of money that he offered McGregor to make the fight between them happen.

Mayweather needed $100 million guaranteed before the fight (with Pay Per View percentages being split), and McGregor would be guaranteed significantly less.

$15 million dollars is a lot of money to turn down, but with an ego like McGregor’s it’s easy to see why he turned down making 3/20 of what his opponent would make.

Still, Mayweather has a point. McGregor claimed that 2016 was a $40 million dollar year for him and only a small portion of that money would have been guaranteed.

Mayweather claims that he hasn’t made more than $10 million guaranteed before, so $15 million would be a raise. However, McGregor also has to consider that he is already giving up most of the risk in the fight. He is going into a boxing ring, something that he has some training in, but not nearly as much as Floyd Mayweather, and he would certainly be the underdog coming in.

Would losing to Mayweather hurt some of the hype that surrounds McGregor? Maybe. The amount of money lost with that hype would have to be considered as well.
