In this era of sports video games, Franchise Mode has seemingly taken a back seat to online-based modes that cater to the new school of players that prefer online experiences over traditional offline experiences.

Thursday, Visual Concepts, the studio behind the upcoming NBA 2K18 title, released a new blog entry outlining major changes to the MyLeague and MyGM modes in the game, with a focus on enhancing franchise mode in a way no sports title has in this console generation.

With NBA 2K18, we are introducing an experience you won’t find in any other game; a narrative-driven story-based franchise experience that maintains all of the user control and team building aspects that you have grown to love from MyGM over the years.

While MyCAREER focuses on your life as an NBA player out to achieve superstardom, MyGM: The Next Chapter aims to view the NBA world from the complete opposite perspective. Centered around you, the GM, you will need to navigate backroom scenarios while dealing with expectations from your owner, your staff, the press, other GMs, and of course, your players.

How your MyGM experience turns out is completely up to you. Your path will be determined by the choices you make and the answers you provide at the many key points in the narrative. Understand, I’m intentionally being a little vague regarding the main plot of the story, as I want you to experience it firsthand rather than through thinly veiled spoilers. Just know that the intent is for an engaging experience that steers clear of the typical sports clichés you may be conjuring up in your head.

NBA 2K - Visual Concepts

Imagine that...a GM mode that is as story driven as My Career mode? Once you hear the idea, it seems rather obvious and a bit confusing as why no sports title has ventured in this direction before, but we're just glad the team at Visual Concepts has decided to implement it into NBA 2K.

On top of announcing the narrative-driven MyGM mode VC also revealed a list of changes to the mode brought on by the 2017 NBA Collective Bargaining Agreement, including Super Max Contracts, Rookie Scale Contracts and a whole lot more. Oh, and you'll also be able to call up and send players down to the G-League. We cannot wait to hear more about NBA 2K18.
