To many, this might be just a normal Sunday night, but for the people watching the Storhamar and Sparta game in Norway and the players, it's a historic night to say the least.

Game 5 between the two teams in the championship quarterfinals (series tied 2-2) went into the 11th period (8th Overtime) before Storhamar finally won it!

Not only was that a lot of hockey, but it was also a world record for the longest hockey game ever played.

The previous record was set by Detroit and the Montreal Maroons back in 1936 when they played a 176 minutes and 30 second game.

According to VG Sporten, there was a celebration when the world record was set.

Also, apparently the teams got some food at some point, as per this translation from VG Sporten:

The local restaurant first made one meal to Storhamar players, then they arranged up with pizza - and now they run on a batch of pasta to Storhamar players, says Ola Stenberg that are in place in CC Amfi.

While the time on ice was ridiculous, so were the shot totals, 96-93 in favour of Storhamar.

According to the local police, people are reporting their loved ones missing because people are still at the game.

Luckily, those people and players can finally go home.  The reaction from the crowd after the winner was awesome to say the least.

Unfortunately for the teams, they really won't have that much time to rest as Game 6 is scheduled for Tuesday.
