For many hockey fans in their 20s, Nicklas Lidstrom was their hero growing up.

The Swedish defenceman was a huge part of the Detroit Red Wings’ success, recording 54 goals and 129 assists in a remarkable 263 playoff games. Lidstrom was a tough competitor who hardly missed any action. On May 22, 2009, he set the record for most consecutive postseason games played at 228.

By the end of his career, the blue-liner finished second in postseason games only to his former teammate, Chris Chelios (266).

Hopefully this served as a nice little reminder of how solid Lidstrom was during his playing days.
