For the first in what feels like a long time, both the Yankees and Red Sox are essentially neck-and-neck in the AL East race.

Baseball is so much better when the two bitter rivals are playing meaningful games against each other, and this weekend is the perfect example of that fact.

Friday night, Boston and New York kicked off a three-game set in Beantown and the Red Sox walked it off for the win.

Saturday, the rivals needed extra innings to solve the second game of the series and in the 11th, there was some controversy.

The play was strange to say the least, and what happened after the play was necessary.

Boston got out of the inning without giving up a run, but in the end they lost 4-1 in 16 innings.

The game was the longest the two teams have played against each other at Fenway since 1966, but because of the protest, it might not be officially over just yet.

We're not as optimistic as this fan, though.  The final game of the three-game set goes Sunday afternoon.
