It's an absolute surprise that the Capitals weren't just standing in a giant puddle of water at the Capital One Arena on Saturday night, because Alexander Ovechkin is fully ablaze.

On Thursday Ovechkin took it to his critics early on, scoring a hat trick in the Capitals first game of the season versus the Senators. Watching Ovi in that first game, you just had to know that he would put on a similar scoring display against the Canadiens during the Caps' home opener. But who would've thought that Ovi would score a hat trick in THE FIRST PERIOD?

We'll let the Capitals Twitter account provide you with the play-by-play...

So, the Capitals Twitter account was excited to say the least -- understandably so. As was Ovi's teammate Tom Wilson, who is currently watching from the sidelines as he's serving a four-game suspension.

Now that's a hot start to the season. How hot? Well, the last time someone scored a hat trick in their team's first two games was 100 years ago. Literally.

Bring back the hot stick celly, Ovi -- IT'S TIME!
