Shane Doan will be remembered as one of the most loyal players in the history of the NHL.

The Halkirk, Alberta native was selected 7th overall in the 1995 draft and he never turned his back on the people who gave him his first shot in the NHL.

On Wednesday morning, the 40-year-old right winger decided to call it a career after 21 seasons.

Since the Coyotes’ franchise records include stats from the original Winnipeg Jets’ franchise, Doan does not hold all the team records, but you can find his name at the top of just about every offensive list you can think of.

Considering Doan was highly respected across the league and played a huge role in making hockey popular throughout Arizona, you can bet that past and present players reached out to the former Coyotes captain to congratulate the 2010 King Clancy Trophy winner on his impressive career.

Fans in Arizona are certainly going to miss seeing No. 19 on the ice for their team, but he’s one of the main reasons they still get to watch hockey on a nightly basis.
