In case you didn’t hear, the Penguins ended up winning Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final, despite not recording a shot for over 37 minutes.

When you don’t record a shot for that long, you probably aren’t going to rack up too many shots through the whole game and most of the time, not many goals either. The Penguins aren’t a normal team though, and Pekka Rinne learned that the hard way.

Normal or not, teams are extremely unlikely to shoot 36% in a game, mainly because of how talented goalies are nowadays.

Even with the old style of goalies that would stay standing for shots slid along the ice, this was a bad performance though. How bad? Since the NHL has had more than six teams, no NHL goalie has played a full game and had a worse sv% than Rinne last night.

Yikes.

To be fair, most of the goals weren’t really Rinne’s fault. One was an empty-netter, so he allowed four goals on 11 shots. Plus, it can actually add a little difficulty to the game when a goalie is facing no shots. They can get a little bored back there.

The game ultimately brought Rinne's sv% down to .934 and only one point back of Jake Allen for the top sv% these playoffs, so he's definitely earned a little slack. It's just unfortunate timing for the Predators.
