The sports world received some sad news on Friday, February 10, 2017, when the Ilitch family released a statement saying longtime Detroit Red Wings and Detroit Tigers owner Mike Ilitch had passed away at the age of 87.

On Wednesday, the Red Wings unveiled commemorative Mike Ilitch patches that will be on the sleeve of their jerseys for the rest of the season.

The team didn’t stop there, though. They also added some new paint to the ice at Joe Louis Arena.

There’s also a tribute banner for Mr. Ilitch outside of section 112 for Wednesday night’s game against the St. Louis Blues, and fans will have a chance to sign it and pay their respects throughout the night.
