The IIHF World Hockey Championships would have been right around the corner, so let's take the time to look back at one of the greatest goals from the tournament's history.

The year was 2003. Both Canada and Sweden were stacked with extraordinary talent. Sweden’s roster consisted of all-stars such as Mats Sundin, Peter Frosberg and Henrik Zetterberg, while Canada’s included Ryan Smyth, Dany Heatley, Shane Doan and Patrick Marleau, to name a few. It was an unexpected player, though, who proved to be the game’s hero.

Remember Anson Carter? Well if you don’t, here’s a reminder of how he scored one of the greatest goals in Canadian history.

Shortly into overtime, Carter went end-to-end, took a slap-shot, recovered his own rebound, and wrapped around what proved to be the golden goal. However, there was one problem; no one knew if the puck had fully crossed the line or not!

But upon further review, it was declared a goal.

Have you ever witnessed a more puzzling celebration before?

It's sad to think that there will be no champion this year but hopefully there will be some more memorable goals like this one in the future. What a moment!
