Injuries have unfortunately been a major talking point in both the NHL and NBA playoffs.

Isaiah Thomas, Kawhi Leonard and Ryan Johansen are the three big names that come to mind when you think of injuries that have occurred in the Conference finals.

While the injuries to Thomas and Leonard essentially signal the end of the Celtics' and Spurs' run in the playoffs, the Predators are capable of overcoming the Johansen injury, but it won't be easy.

The #Predators will be without #Johansen for the remainder of the playoffs. . More on TSN.ca

Johansen's 13 points tied a franchise record for most points in a single postseason, so moving on without him is going to be very difficult to say the least.

The injury Johansen suffered was a thigh injury and he had to have emergency surgery for it.

It looks like there was another reason the surgery was done so quickly, though, and that's because Johansen was reportedly diagnosed with acute compartment syndrome.

As per Wikipedia, this is the definition of acute compartment syndrome:

"Acute compartment syndrome occurs after a traumatic injury such as a car crash. The trauma causes a severe high pressure in the compartment which results in insufficient blood supply to muscles and nerves. Acute compartment syndrome is a medical emergency that requires surgery to correct. If untreated, the lack of blood supply leads to permanent muscle and nerve damage and can result in the loss of function of the limb."

This isn't the first time someone in sports has been diagnosed with this type of injury.  In 2013, Broncos safety Rahim Moore had to have emergency leg surgery after leaving a game against Kansas City and he almost lost his leg.

Absolutely terrifying to say the least as Johansen could have lost his leg, too, but the fact that Johansen had that emergency surgery and is expected to fully recover is wonderful news.

Plus, based on this picture his girlfriend posted, it looks like he's in good spirits.

We wish Johansen a speedy recovery and we look forward to seeing him back on the ice.

Until then, he'll be cheering on the Predators as they take on the Ducks in Game 5 Saturday night.
